The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) is protesting against the appointment of Professor Smile Gavua Dzisi as Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES). According to NAGRAT President Angel Carbonu, Professor Dzisi lacks teaching experience, making her unsuitable for the role.

NAGRAT believes leadership positions within GES should be held by individuals with teaching experience and a background in pre-tertiary education. Carbonu argues that appointing non-teachers to key positions undermines educators' professional growth. He also points out that many pre-tertiary teachers hold advanced degrees, making them qualified for leadership roles.

The association urges the government to prioritize experienced educators for leadership positions and remove appointees lacking direct experience. They also call on President John Dramani Mahama to ensure appointments remain professional and non-partisan, serving all Ghanaians' interests.

NAGRAT seeks a meeting with the President and stakeholders to address concerns and strengthen Ghana's education system by empowering qualified educators. They emphasize that GES is a professional institution, not a political office, and should be led by practitioners with relevant experience.
