Reject New Transport Fares - GPRTU and Spare Parts Dealers Tell Public

Henry Okyere Jnr, who's the Chairman of the Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association and President of the Ghana Auto Parts Dealers Association, is telling people to ignore some drivers who want to increase transport fares. He says these drivers are mistaken to think that spare part prices are going up, because that's just not true.

The Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association put out a statement on March 16, 2025, saying that the Alliance of Drivers - Ghana is wrong to claim that spare part prices are rising.

They were planning to increase fares by 20% starting from March 17, 2025, but Henry Okyere Jnr says that's not fair. He points out that the cedi is actually doing better in the foreign exchange market.

In a video, Henry Okyere Jnr said that the main transport union, GPRTU, doesn't even know what's going on with these drivers. He thinks they're just trying to get attention and stir up trouble for the new government. "Last year, the dollar was GH¢17, but now it's GH¢15.50," he said. "Spare part prices are actually going down because the dollar is going down, and the government hasn't added any new taxes."

Henry Okyere Jnr says the drivers' claims are false and just meant to cause trouble. "They can't use spare parts as an excuse to raise fares," he said. "People shouldn't listen to them, and they shouldn't pay any new fares because GPRTU is in charge."
