Ghana's Education Minister, Haruna Iddrisu, has ordered the Ghana Education Service to take immediate action to address the rising indiscipline in senior high schools nationwide. This move follows a recent shooting incident at SDA Senior High School in Kumasi, where a 16-year-old student, Suzi Adwoa Penamang, was shot and injured by her colleague.
The minister expressed concern over what he described as a "troubling breakdown in discipline" within the country's educational institutions, calling the Kumasi incident "unGhanaian" and emphasizing the need for urgent reforms.

To tackle this issue, the Ghana Education Service will strengthen inspections to prevent weapons in schools, with full government backing. Alternative disciplinary measures introduced in 2017 will also be implemented, focusing on positive discipline and non-violent methods, such as writing lines, community service, counseling, extra tasks and informing parents about their child's behavior.
