The new registration process aims to leverage advanced technology for a stress-free experience, addressing issues with the previous exercise, including a rise in SIM-related fraud. George criticized the previous administration for failing to meet key performance indicators, describing the exercise as "botched."
The SIM card re-registration initiative, launched in 2021, faced challenges, prompting multiple deadline extensions due to low participation rates. The process required all SIM card holders to re-register using the Ghana Card, but millions remained unregistered, raising concerns about data security and fraudulent registrations.
