The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) is set to recruit 12,000 young Ghanaians over the next four years, as part of a nationwide initiative aimed at strengthening national security and addressing youth unemployment. This major announcement was made by the Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, in a Facebook post on Wednesday, June 19, 2025.
Dr. Boamah confirmed that the recruitment drive has received full backing from President John Dramani Mahama and forms a critical part of a broader strategy to boost the military’s operational capacity while providing sustainable job opportunities for the youth.

“This nationwide exercise has been approved by President John Mahama. Prepare yourself for a life of pride and service. Ensure you are medically fit before applying military training is not for the faint-hearted,” Dr. Boamah cautioned.
He emphasized the intense physical demands of military training, drawing from his own experience working at the 37 Military Hospital. “Military life is no ordinary path. I’ve seen lives lost during training. It requires you to give up all forms of everyday comfort,” he added.
