GOOD NEWS: Ghana Health Service Gets Approval to Keep Recruiting Nurses and Midwives

The Ghana Health Service has started the placement process again for nurses and midwives from 2020 who got financial clearance in 2024. This comes after a temporary stop because of administrative issues. The Ghana Health Service made this announcement official in a letter signed by the Acting Director-General, Prof. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea.

Regional health offices with openings are encouraged to take action to attract more nurses and midwives. Regional directors are asked to use the provided contact numbers to help place qualified staff.

The Ministry of Health had assigned this group to various agencies under the Ghana Health Service for placement. However, administrative challenges caused a temporary halt in the process.

With this new directive, the placement exercise will start again on Monday, March 3, 2025. This move is expected to help with staffing shortages in healthcare facilities across the country. This will ensure hospitals and clinics have the right staff to provide quality healthcare services.

The Ghanaian government has been working to strengthen the healthcare system by hiring and deploying more health professionals. The financial clearance given in 2024 was a big step towards getting more trained nurses and midwives into the system.

The Ghana Health Service is reaffirming its commitment to making sure healthcare workers are spread out evenly to meet the growing needs of the sector. Nurses and midwives affected by the temporary halt are advised to stay in touch with their regional health directorates for further instructions.

The Ghana Health Service has promised to speed up the process to make the transition into service smooth. For more information, people can contact the Ghana Health Service through their website or call their helpline at +233 (0) 302 642 014.
